Prometheus

This mosaic panel was commissioned by Kilkenny County Council for Callan Fire Station under the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government ‘Per Cent’ for Art Scheme.

The work took 9 months to complete using 12,000 tiles.

The theme for this panel was chosen from classical Greek mythology featuring the Titan Prometheus who is said to have stolen fire from the gods to give to mankind.

Prometheus is also regarded as one of the greatest friends and saviour of men.

The panel depicts Prometheus reaching up into the heavens about to light the torch with fire from the sun.

Medium: Marine plywood, vitreous glass tessarae, cinca, glass, Venetian smalti, gold plain and ripple.
Dimensions: 6′ x 6′
